So I published a book…what now?

Hello all!

I suppose this post is somewhat of an elongated update to what I’ve been talking about on Instagram regarding my books, writing projects, and everything else bookish and creative in my life.  At the beginning of every month, I outline what I want to accomplish book wise in those 30-31 days and review what I’ve accomplished in the past couple of months.

In March, I republished my first fantasy novel Spirit Followers with its new cover and published its sequel Keepers of the Crown. So, from that point on, my goals have mostly been reviews, promotion, and marketing orientated. But that’s not all I’ve been doing. I’ve been finishing the first draft of Instruments of Sacrifice 3, been talking to people about my poetry, been writing more poetry (it’s all over my blog), and been READING. I’ve been reading so much and it has been wonderful.

The only sad part of all of this is that I will NOT be attending Bookcon this year as I did last year. This summer is already booked with so many wonderful things. Next year though for sure! (I will have to stay off of Instagram that first weekend fo June so I don’t get sick with jealousy.)

So…the official update.

I. What I’ve been reading:

About every couple of months I post a reading wrap up. You can see my first two from this year here: pt 1 and pt. 2.

I will be posting a new one probably at the end of this month, but a brief update: I’m currently reading Red Rising by Pierce Brown because one of my best friends forced me to. (SO glad she did!!!) I recently finished the Vicious duology by V.E. Schwab and an indie novella Not Yours But Forever by Ruth Morse. After I finish Red Rising, I’m looking to read Muse of Nightmares by Lainie Taylor and some other indie reads including Love and the Sea and Everything Between by Brian McBride, Cricket and the Bird by S.M. Creanza, and The Aeon Chronicles by April M. Woodard.

II. What I’ve been writing:

I’ve finished the first draft of Instruments of Sacrifice 3!!! This is a HUGE accomplishment for me because I’ve been working on this draft for about a year and a half now. It has been the most emotionally taxing book in this series so far. I’ve changed the direction of this book so many times. Now that I am at the end of the first draft, I do know the direction, and I’m quite excited about where this is heading. I’m dying to dive into edits.

I title reveal will come in a couple months! I want to finish the first round of edits before I announce it. I’ve been set on this title for a few years now, but the most drastic things happen to my stories in the first round of edits, so I want to make sure I am 100% for this title before you all get to have it! It is hard though calling it Instruments of Sacrifice 3 instead of the two-word title that it actually is.

Some details about the book that I can tell you:

  • It is the first of three prequels to Spirit Followers and Keepers of the Crown.
  • Yep! A prequel.
  • Which means different main characters. There are two, both of which you have met before.
  • Because this book only has two main characters (instead of the array in the first two books), this story is on a smaller scale in many ways.
  • Yes, that does mean it will be significantly shorter in KoC. You’re welcome.
  • It will take place primarily in the desert.
  • It is loosely based on the Exodus story in the Bible.
  • This book isn’t necessarily important to the details in SF and KoC, but it will be very important to the other two prequels and the final book which takes place after Keepers.

Here are some snippets of inspiration for the book from my Pinterest!

I’ve also been writing a lot of poetry!

I have no clue when I’ll make another collection. I have a couple concepts I would like to try, but I haven’t had enough life experience since my last collection to create a brand new one. But! If you do want to read poetry that isn’t in Essence of An Age, you can find all of them on my blog!

III. What I’ve been promoting:

All of my currently published books are finding themselves into the hands of reviewers and bloggers who are kind and supportive! I can’t wait to share their reviews with you. If you’d like to read what people have been saying so far, you can find them on Goodreads, Amazon, and my Instagram!

I am looking to redo the kindle versions of all my books soon since I published those versions in haste without really looking into good quality Kindle formatting. I published primarily in paperback, but I will be making the e-book versions better for e-book readers!

Much more to come in the coming months!

Much love,

Lydia
